This training calendar is designed to be a statewide resource about the latest training opportunities in mental health and substance abuse recovery across Washington State. Most of these trainings are organized by outside organizations, so make sure to scroll down on the page of the training you’re interested in if you have questions or need to contact someone about the training. We invite you to learn about upcoming events and/or request that your training event be added to the calendar!

Hoarding in supportive housing

Pandemic-related stockpiling highlighted hoarding behaviors. Beyond the pandemic, millions of people struggle with hoarding, especially those who are homeless or formerly homeless. This presentation is an introduction to hoarding disorder causes, co-morbidities, and costs to clients. Advanced Topics in Strengthening Youth/Young Adult Peer Support: Strengths, Passions, Achievements, and Motivators

We will discuss how youth peer support specialists (PSSs) engage in strengths-based conversations with young people, using the framework of "Strengths, Passions, Achievements, and Motivators" or SPAM. Discussing strengths can feel uncomfortable, distressing or phony for youth clients. In this call we will focus on specific techniques that PSSs can use to help ensure a comfortable and engaging conversation that builds both the PSSs' and the youth's awareness and genuine appreciation of the young person's SPAM. Quarterly Call for Supervisors of the Adult Peer Workforce

Quarterly learning and discussion opportunities for supervisors of peer staff in our region of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, facilitated by MHAAO. The first call on December 1 focuses on supporting staff in times of crisis. Subsequent topics will be developed in response to group need. Common Ground: Mental Health and Addiction Peers Live Webinar

Peer-delivered service workers with lived experience of mental health challenges, and those in substance use recovery, have a lot in common.
