This introductory training will provide counselors with foundational knowledge on telehealth technologies. Specifically, participants will learn about telehealth trends, treatment outcome rates, reimbursement, privacy/security issues, ethics, building therapeutic alliances, and license portability. In addition, participants will have an opportunity to practice resolving ethical dilemmas that are typical to using telehealth technologies and view and/or participate in a ‘mock’ videocounseling session. Co-occurring Disorders Training for Peer Counselors is interactive and provides useful tools for Peer Counselors working with people who experience co-occurring disorders – the coexistence of both a mental health and a substance use disorder. It will further define co-occurring disorders, introduce study results, the Stages of Change, relapse prevention, and cover the SAMHSA perspective. The trend toward legalization of medical and retail cannabis presents behavioral health clinicians with unique challenges. This course summarizes current research literature related to the effects of cannabis on the mental and physical health of adolescents and adults. Evidence-based strategies and specific handouts to engage clients in productive discussions about their cannabis use will be practiced and shared in addition to multimedia resources for further study.
