ASIST is a two-day intensive, interactive and practice-dominated course designed by LivingWorks to help caregivers recognize and review risk, and intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. Co-occurring Disorders Training for Peer Counselors is interactive and provides useful tools for Peer Counselors working with people who experience co-occurring disorders – the coexistence of both a mental health and a substance use disorder. The trend toward legalization of medical and retail cannabis presents behavioral health clinicians with unique challenges. This course summarizes current research literature related to the effects of cannabis on the mental and physical health of adolescents and adults. Evidence-based strategies and specific handouts to engage clients in productive discussions about their cannabis use will be practiced and shared in addition to multimedia resources for further study. NAMI Family Support Groups are local meetings of caregivers of individuals with a mental illness where family members can talk frankly about their challenges and help one another through their learned wisdom.
