Ignite Pongo, Foundations

October 22, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

$200 – $300

Through Ignite Pongo, attendees will learn and practice Pongo techniques for facilitating powerful personal poetry that inspires healing, growth, and community. In this immersive training, attendees will hone their skills as a Poetry Mentor, learn how to remove barriers to self-expression, and encourage honesty from survivors of difficult life experiences.

Pongo has 27 years of experience in successfully providing therapeutic poetry programming to vulnerable youth. Our poetry mentorship programming is proven to inspire healing among youth who are coping with serious traumatic experiences. Youth consistently express that Pongo offers them immediate therapeutic benefits, and results in long-term transformational change. Studies of our program show decreases in anger, confusion, and depression after Pongo poetry writing, and increases in resilient attitudes, self-esteem, and emotional intelligence among our youth writers.

Join Ignite Pongo to gain the knowledge and skills you need to create therapeutic poetry programming based on our trauma-informed approach.

About Pongo Poetry Project

Pongo Poetry Project is a Seattle-based nonprofit that uses personal poetry to facilitate healing among youth coping with devastating traumas. Our mission is to engage youth in writing poetry to inspire healing and growth.

At the heart of our program is the Pongo Method, a trauma-informed technique for teaching poetry, created in consultation with psychiatrists and researchers from the University of Washington. Pongo’s approach offers youth a safe, gratifying way to express feelings about some of the worst experiences imaginable, including abuse, neglect, and exposure to violence.
