This training calendar is designed to be a statewide resource about the latest training opportunities in mental health and substance abuse recovery across Washington State. Most of these trainings are organized by outside organizations, so make sure to scroll down on the page of the training you’re interested in if you have questions or need to contact someone about the training. Trauma Informed Care & the Practices of Certified Peer Counselors
December 18, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
This one-day training is for Washington State Certified Peer Counselors only. This training will cover information and skills consistent with the Peer Support model when working with people who have experienced trauma.
The trainer is:
Jody Brown, Certified Peer Counselor at Valley Cities Behavioral Health in King County. She is certified by the National Center for Trauma Informed Care (NCTIC) as a trauma informed peer support trainer. Over the past 5 years she has worked as part of a SAMHSA grant to implement TIC in King County. She participates on the TIC Steering Committee, a King County TIC Action Team with other agencies, and a virtual learning network through NCTIC with five other agencies from across the nation.
This training:
- defines trauma and its impact;
- discusses the principles of trauma informed practices and their application in peer support roles;
- explores strategies for applying this knowledge in peer support
