DBHR Monthly Housing Topical webinar – Defining ‘Chronically Homeless’

In January of this year, HUD published the Final Rule on Defining “Chronically Homeless.” This rule went into effect on January 4, 2016 and all Homeless Continuum of Care program recipients were required to comply with the final rule on January 15, 2016. In this webinar, participants will learn:
- the history of the definition and the context for the changes
- an overview of the Final Rule Defining Chronically Homeless
- an overview of the Chronic Homeless definition
- an overview of documentation requirements; and
- strategies for collecting documentation
- key take-ways to help understand the Final Rule
This is the announcement for the monthly webinar in our 2016 DBHR Housing Topical Webinar Series intended to inform, educate and coordinate resources for individuals with mental health and substance use issues who need housing services, resources and supports. This webinar series is designed for professionals and anyone interested in increasing their understanding of the advantages and resources that promotes housing in the lives of people with behavioral health disabilities.
This month’s webinar will feature Joni Canada. Joni is a Staff Attorney and key member of HomeBase’s HUD technical assistance (TA) team. She provides direct TA to Continuums of Care and grant recipients nationwide through training sessions and through HUD’s Regional TA Team. Joni has been with HomeBase since 2007, and has developed a strong background covering a number of federal and California funding streams for affordable and special needs housing. Joni currently focuses on the following topical areas: data-driven performance evaluation, system mapping, financial and grant management, agency capacity building, strategic planning, and zoning/planning analysis. Joni is a southern California native who loves Mexican food, running after her two munchkins, sourcing the best chocolate chip cookies, and traveling. She has a B.S. (Business Administration) and B.A. (International Relations) from the University of Southern California, and a J.D. from Fordham University’s School of Law. She is a member of the State Bars of California and New York.
