At times the families in our service community may be struggling with intergenerational trauma or parental mental illness. How can providers best engage compromised parents into the dyadic treatment experience? This session will dive into the world of relationships which we use as a powerful tool for developmental support. In the knowing of ourselves and others within the triadic helping relationships, we will consider together how culture influences social ways of being, self knowing, and social emotional success. We will look at what creates culturally respectful client engagement, how we may delicately hold the trauma of another and seek to honor all that the parents with mental health challenges bring to the lives of their children.
This six hour training can be used towards meeting the WA-AIMH endorsement(r) competencies of relationship focused therapeutic practice, family relationships and dynamics, trauma and loss, mental and behavioral disorders in adults, reflection (self awareness), and cultural competence.
