DESCRIPTION:Kirkland\, WA – August 5-6\, 2017 \nWhat is NAMI Provider Education?\nNAMI Provider Education is a five-session program for mental health professionals who work directly with individuals living with mental illness and their families. A series of short lectures\, followed by time for elaboration of the teaching points in group discussion and group exercises. Presented by a trained team; a mental health professional who lives with a mental health condition or is a family member\, a family member of an individual living with a mental health condition and an individual with a mental health condition who is now in recovery. \nWhat are the goals of NAMI Provider Education?\nExpose mental health staff to the various emotional stages that individuals living with mental illness and their families go through on the journey to recovery. Help mental health staff gain an empathy and understanding of the lived experience of individuals living with mental illness and their families\, specifically in the areas of treatment. Promote the concept of collaboration between the individuals living with the illness\, the mental health staff and the family to achieve the best level of recovery possible. \nCriteria for taking the Provider Education Presenter Training\nIndividuals wanting to be part of the Provider team for presentation must be NAMI members in good standing with current dues and a record in NAMI’s member management system. Individuals on the team must be 18 years of age. Presenters must meet the criteria of being able to participate in two (2) presentation series. Individuals on Provider presentation teams must meet one of the following three criteria.\n⦁ Adult in recovery with a mental illness\, preferably who is also a NAMI Peer-to-Peer Mentor or an IOOV\, EtS or PTA presenter.\n⦁ Family member or partner of a person with a mental illness\, preferably who is also a NAMI Basics\, NAMI Family-to-Family or NAMI Homefront teacher.\n⦁ Mental health professional that also are either a family member or someone with a mental illness or lives with mental illness themselves. \nClick here  for more information and the application.

It explains how the peer relationship is key to recovery from trauma and challenges in each of us to discover our own Next Steps. The training is interactive\, engaging and a critical tool for peer support specialists. \nFor more information and to register\, click here and click here for the flyer. \nNancy Dow’s work with trauma survivors spans 30 years where she came to understand that services and programs for people with lived experience of mental illness and/or substance abuse\, must be trauma informed. She was trained by Leah Harris of the National Center for Trauma Informed Care\, served as peer consultant to the King County SAMHSA Trauma Informed Care Grant and she presented Trauma Informed Care to all Harborview Inpatient Psychiatry staff in 2014. Nancy works on the Harborview Psychiatric ICU on the Peer Bridger team. \nSeating is limited\, pre-registration is required. Lunch is not included. SUMMARY:MAT for Opioid Use Disorders
DESCRIPTION:Harmful opioid use\, including heroin\, oxycodone and hydrocodone\, and opioid use disorders remain a critical national public health concern. There are several FDA-approved medications to assist in the treatment of opioid use disorders and each of these medications offers individuals a somewhat different approach. This training will focus on enhancing understanding of the role of methadone\, buprenorphine\, and oral and extended-release naltrexone in treating opioid use disorders. The training will provide an overview of the research related to the use of these medications for both adults and young adults\, as well as the practical issues related to providing coordinated care for individuals utilizing these medications as a treatment intervention. This training will also provide information about the use of the naloxone (Narcan) in the treatment of opioid overdose and as an overdose prevention tool. \nClick here for more information.

DESCRIPTION:17 SEMINARS COMPLETED WITH 142 PARTICIPANTS SINCE 2013\nThis course will include research information from agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO)\, the American Association of Suicidology (AAS)\, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)\, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for an in-depth look at the prevalence of suicide\, the warning signs\, symptoms of depression\, and risk factors. Case examples\, stories\, research articles\, and interviews with professionals will be presented throughout the training with opportunities for participants to evaluate their own understanding of this subject. Mr. White will provide helpful risk assessment tools and present an approach he developed entitled\, “A.N.C.H.O.R.
