SUMMARY:Ending the Silence Presentation Presenters
DESCRIPTION:Ending the Silent (EtS) is an in-school presentation designed to teach middle and high school students about signs and symptoms of mental illness\, how to recognize the early warning signs and the importance of acknowledging those warning signs. Presentations are done in a team of two – usually an adult and a young adult living with mental illness age 18-35\, and it is recommend that those applying do so as part of a planned team. SUMMARY:Identifying\, Assessing\, & Responding to Suicide Risk
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE PRESENTER \nGreg White received his Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University in 1983.  Early on\, his professional experience included working in a residential treatment program for teens\, private practice\, and outreach crisis intervention for families. \nFor 23 ½ years Greg worked as a mental health professional at the Snohomish County Jail in Everett\, WA.  During that time he assessed hundreds of people who made suicide statements\, suicide gestures\, and serious suicide attempts.  Greg had extensive experience working with families\, clinicians\, psychiatric providers\, courts\, and DMHPs when developing treatment plans and safety plans for at-risk detainees returning back to the community. \nHe currently provides subject matter expertise for the National Institute of Corrections (Technical Resource Provider & Crisis Intervention Team instructor)\, the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (Academy Instructor)\, OmniSure Consulting Group (Suicide-Reduction-Risk-Tip videos)\, Wolters Kluwer Health\, Inc. (editorial and accreditation assistance for counselor CEs)\, and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care conferences (break-out session presenter). \nGreg has lived in Washington for over 40 years and is married with 2 children.  His faith and family come first and\, when he has time\, he also enjoys a variety of activities including camping\, hiking\, biking\, coaching soccer\, playing the piano\, cooking\, and traveling. \nABOUT THE SEMINAR\nThis course will include research information from agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO)\, the American Association of Suicidology (AAS)\, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for an in-depth look at the prevalence of suicide\, the warning signs\, symptoms of depression\, and risk factors.  Case examples\, stories\, research articles\, and interviews with professionals will be presented throughout the training with opportunities for participants to evaluate their own understanding of this subject. Greg will provide helpful risk assessment tools and present an approach he developed entitled\, “A.N.C.H.O.R. DESCRIPTION:This 2-day Mental Health First Aid training is specifically designed for community members and providers who serve African immigrant and refugee communities. This is a two day 8-hour training that is designed for those with limited knowledge of behavioral and mental health\, but who interacts in their community or professional work with the public. \nTARGET AUDIENCE:\nCommunity members and providers who serve African immigrant and refugee communities; the training is ideally for those with little or no behavioral health training. There are only thirty (30) training slots available. \n Cost: No fee.  \nTHIS TRAINING IS FREE BUT DOES NOT ALLOW ACCESS TO THE CONFERENCE.  CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE REQUIRES A REGISTRATION FEE OR A SCHOLARSHIP \n Training Information:\nMental Health First Aid helps trainees assist someone experiencing a mental health related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course\, attendees will learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns\, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations\, and where to turn for help. Topics covered include mental health literacy\, or a basic understanding of what different mental illnesses and addictions are\, how they can affect a person’s daily life\, and what helps individuals experiencing these challenges get well. Participants will learn about Depression and mood disorders\, anxiety disorders\, trauma\, psychosis\, and substance use disorders. DESCRIPTION:NAMI Connection Recovery Support Groups are peer-based mutual support groups that meet weekly for 90 minutes of safe\, confidential personal sharing in a flexible group setting. Groups are open to any adult living with a mental illness or a psychiatric condition and willing in share with others confidentially in an atmosphere of respect\, encouragement\, and hope. Prospective facilitators must have a documented mental health diagnosis and be at least 18 years of age and be(come) a NAMI member. DESCRIPTION:The monthly DBHR Housing Topical Webinar is scheduled for February 25th from 8:30-10:00  The topic will focus on delivering supportive housing services in a Medicaid Driven System featuring Carol Wilkins.  Carol Wilkins\, M.P.P. works to develop and support the implementation of evidence-based policy solutions to end homelessness for people with complex health needs and vulnerabilities. Through research and technical assistance\, she works to increase the capacity of state and local governments and non-profit agencies to create integrated systems to provide housing opportunities linked to effective health care and supportive services. She has worked with several states to support the use of Medicaid financing and delivery systems to provide the services and supports needed for homeless people with complex health needs to get and keep housing\, and to reduce avoidable hospitalizations and other costs.  Her experience includes contributing to the development of Opening Doors: the Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness and creating web-based tools and resources to support replication of best practices in ending homelessness.
