DESCRIPTION:Through a partnership with the North Sound Mental Health Administration (NSMHA)\, Compass Health is offering this one-day workshop for behavioral health professionals that will help them better assess suicide risk\, plan treatment\, and manage the ongoing care of clients at-risk for suicide. \nBehavioral health providers play a crucial role in preventing suicides and yet\, many providers report that they feel inadequately trained to assess\, treat\, and manage suicidal clients. DESCRIPTION:The May topical webinar on Housing scheduled for May 26th from 8:30-9:30 will feature Pat Tucker from Advocates for Human Potential. \nMs. Tucker is a nationally-recognized leader in supportive housing\, supported employment\, and community integration for people with disabilities\, including those with behavioral health conditions.  Her diverse career has fashioned a unique perspective on employment for people with disabilities\, job development\, permanent supportive housing and supported employment management. Before joining Advocates for Human Potential\, Inc. (AHP)\, Ms. Tucker spent more than 20 years supervising affordable housing programs. Realizing that housing alone did not cure homelessness\, she added employment programs to all of the housing programs that she managed. Operated mostly by staff with lived experience of homelessness\, these programs founds job for hundreds of clients. \nAs a Senior Program Manager and one of AHP’s top trainers\, Ms. Tucker’s professional experiences and creative spirit produce a training style that is concise\, easily followed\, worthwhile and fun. She brings a passion to her trainings and successfully takes difficult\, complex subjects and transforms them into information everyone can enjoy. Regardless of the topic\, people attending Ms. Tucker’s trainings gain a deeper\, fuller and clearer understanding of the content area and the skills necessary to complete related tasks with greater confidence and effectiveness. \n  \nMs. Tucker will provide an overview of the principles\, research and the fidelity components of the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration’s Evidence-based Practice (EBP) Permanent Supportive Housing model.

SUMMARY:Self-Injury Behavior in Youth - Issues & Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Description\n\n\nSelf-injury refers to deliberate\, self-inflicted tissue damage\, such as cutting or burning. Self-injury has reached alarming proportions amongst our youth; studies show that 14-24% of adolescents and young adults have engaged in this behavior at least once\, with a quarter of these reporting current\, chronic self-injury. Helping professionals are therefore increasingly encountering young people who are involved with self-injury. This workshop will begin with a general overview to assist participants in understanding the experience and motivations of adolescents who intentionally injure themselves. The content will then focus on practical strategies for working with youth struggling with this complex issue. Participants will leave this workshop with increased insight regarding self-injury behavior in youth and a framework for effective intervention.

DESCRIPTION:The Washington Low Income Housing Alliance is excited to announce that registration for the annual Conference on Ending Homelessness is now open. The conference will take place on May 11 and 12\, 2016 at the Spokane Convention Center in Spokane\, Washington. This event is the largest annual convening of homelessness stakeholders in Washington State and will bring together over 600 people from across the region and neighboring states. This year’s program will offer a wide diversity of direct service and advocacy skill building trainings\, networking opportunities\, and opportunities for dialogue on how we can collectively continue to strengthen our state’s movement to ensure all people have access to safe\, healthy\, and affordable homes. \nIn addition to the Conference on Ending Homelessness\, two additional trainings will take place the day before the conference begins on May 10\, 2016. We will be offering a Pre-Conference Supportive Housing Services Medicaid benefit training for permanent supportive housing providers and those interested in utilizing this new\, targeted Medicaid benefit. We will also be offering an Emerging Advocates Program advocacy training for individuals with direct experience of housing instability/homelessness. DESCRIPTION:4 free hours of CME following the WSPA Spring meeting! \nPsychiatrists can dramatically improve the reach and impact of mental health services using integrated care approaches. This free\, four hour training is an excellent introduction to providing effective mental health care for populations whether you are part of an integrated care team or run a private practice. \nDesigned for psychiatrists and resident psychiatrists\, Applying the Integrated Care Approach was developed using proven adult learning approaches including interactivity\, user engagement and active learning. DESCRIPTION:NAMI’s Homefront class is a 6-session educational program for families\, caregivers and friends of military service members and vets with mental health conditions. Based on the nationally recognized NAMI Family-to-Family program\, NAMI Homefront is designed to address the unique needs of family\, caregivers and friends of those who have served or are currently serving our country.  Prospective teachers must be a family member of an active duty military or veteran\, be 18 years of age\, and be(come) a NAMI member. This webinar series is designed for professionals and anyone interested in increasing their understanding of the advantages and resources that promotes housing in the lives of people with behavioral health disabilities. \nThis month’s webinar will feature Joni Canada.  Joni is a Staff Attorney and key member of HomeBase’s HUD technical assistance (TA) team. She provides direct TA to Continuums of Care and grant recipients nationwide through training sessions and through HUD’s Regional TA Team. Joni has been with HomeBase since 2007\, and has developed a strong background covering a number of federal and California funding streams for affordable and special needs housing. Joni currently focuses on the following topical areas: data-driven performance evaluation\, system mapping\, financial and grant management\, agency capacity building\, strategic planning\, and zoning/planning analysis. Joni is a southern California native who loves Mexican food\, running after her two munchkins\, sourcing the best chocolate chip cookies\, and traveling. She has a B.S. (Business Administration) and B.A. (International Relations) from the University of Southern California\, and a J.D. from Fordham University’s School of Law. She is a member of the State Bars of California and New York.

DESCRIPTION:Description: While the numbers of overdose deaths from prescription opioids may be\ndecreasing in Washington\, the numbers attributed to heroin use are increasing.
