SUMMARY:2025 Washington Behavioral Healthcare Conference
DESCRIPTION:We look forward to providing an opportunity for the behavioral health community to come together\, to share best practices about life-saving treatment and supports\, and to feel inspired about being the helpers. Although our state and nation face new uncertainties\, the need for behavioral health services and resiliency is higher than ever. We’re especially excited to introduce the 2025 WBHC keynote speakers: \n\nNora McInerny\, an author\, creator & podcaster who specializes in difficult conversations\, including on resilience & grief\nStephen Loyd\, MD\, an expert on the treatment of opioid use disorders\nJames Forman\, Jr.\, JD\, a professor at Yale Law School & Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Locking Up Our Own: Crime & Punishment in Black America\n\nTo see the full lineup of the WBHC\, click on the Agenda tab at the top of this page. SUMMARY:Law & Ethics - 2022 Washington Behavioral Healthcare Conference
DESCRIPTION:Because the WBHC is virtual this year and has conference sessions on Wednesday\, Law & Ethics will take place the week prior to the WBHC. \nLaw & Ethics will occur in 2 virtual sessions\, on Monday\, June 6 & Tuesday\, June 7\, 2022\, from 9 am to 12:15 pm.\nYou must attend BOTH sessions in their entirety to receive the 6 CE clock hours; the $175 registration fee for Law & Ethics includes both sessions. Details on how to log into the virtual sessions will be sent to those who register prior to June 6. \nWashington State Law & Ethics for Behavioral Health Professionals\n(6.0 CE clock hours) (additional $175 registration fee required)\nEric Ström\, JD\, PhD\, LMHC\, Ström Consulting \nThis educational program fulfills continuing education requirements required by Washington State for Licensed Social Workers\, Mental Health Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists for the mandatory biennial “Law and Ethics” training requirements. Certificates for 6.0 CE clock hours will be issued to attendees who attend both sessions in their entirety. \nSession 1: June 6\, 2022\, 9 am – 12:15 pm: Law & Ethics of Clinical Relationships & Boundaries \nRelationship boundary violation is the most common basis for findings of professional misconduct against behavioral health professionals. There are a wide range of ways clinicians and clients may find themselves entering into dual relationships. In this three-hour workshop\, we will examine the applicable ethical standards and Washington State laws regarding relationships with clients.  We will also discuss strategies for implementing\, and maintaining\, appropriate client/clinician boundaries. Participants will gain increased ability to implement strategies to maximize their clinical effectiveness with clients while minimize risk and liability; identify and apply legal guidelines regarding clinical and non-clinical dual relationships; identify and apply ethical standards regarding dual relationships; identify the range and types of inconsistent dual relationships; identify risk factors for inconsistent dual relationships; create and evaluate strategies to maintain appropriate clinical relationships. \n Session 2: June 7\, 2022\, 9 am – 12:15 pm: Law & Ethics of Mandatorry Reporting & Duty to Warn \nFor many clinicians\, patient lethality and mandatory reporting are some of the most difficult topics to navigate. In this workshop we will examine the applicable Washington State and Federal laws regarding confidentiality\, mandatory reporting obligations with a specific focus on how these rules apply to behavioral health settings.  We will also discuss the boundaries and standards of clinician liability for client harm to self or others as defined in Washington State case law. Participants will gain increased ability to implement strategies to minimize risk and to limit liability to best support their clients and patients; identify and apply legal guidelines regarding mandatory reporting obligations; identify and apply legal standards regarding duty to warn/duty to protect; create and evaluate strategies to meet legal reporting requirements while maximizing client/patient support; understand the implications of the telehealth context on reporting requirements and related legal duties; and create strategies to appropriately and safely advocate for clients/patients. \nRegister here \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Compassion Fatigue Prevention & Recovery for Professional Sustainability
DESCRIPTION:What is the difference between Burnout & Compassion Fatigue? How do you prevent and recover from it?\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nThis training includes a 2-hour bonus video. Link to video will be sent after registration.\nCompassion Fatigue is a term used to describe the psychological\, emotional\, and physical costs of working in one of the helping professions\, such as healthcare\, education\, mental health\, disaster relief\, law enforcement\, hospice care\, and social and environmental justice. \nThe individuals involved in these and other similar professions pay a high emotional price because trauma can be contagious – especially for the highly empathetic\, who are likely to choose professions where they will be always reaching out a hand to help others. \nThe impact of absorbing secondary trauma can affect both the professional and personal life and alter one’s worldview. The good news is there are healthy ways to combat this onslaught and to build positive defenses against secondary trauma. \nRegistration Info \nCost: $65 \n\nNo refunds are given\nAttendee substitutions accepted up to 48 hours before training
